Description

Hotel des Galeries is located on the corner of the Galerie du Roi and the Rue des Bouchers, a stone’s throw from the Grand-Place. Open since 2014, the Hotel des Galeries, offers a charming experience in Brussels’ emblematic city centre.
The entrusted designers of Hotel des Galeries, Fleur Delesalle and Camille Flammarion, have artfully played with luxury fabrics and contemporary colours to create an elegant yet cosy atmosphere. The 23 rooms and suites, spread out on four floors, each offer unique views of the Galerie du Roi, the City Hall and downtown rooftops or the private patio.
Inside the rooms, distinctive features such as parquet flooring and wooden shutters are combined with furniture pieces from prominent contemporary design brands – including Belgian ones – as well as antiques thoroughly sought-after in the Sablon district. Ceramic works of multiple shapes and forms are the signature theme of the Hotel and provide the uncluttered interiors with a true sense of cosiness and authenticity.
Redefining standards in a historic location, Hotel des Galeries and its restaurant le Comptoir des Galeries, orchestrated by chef David Noel de Groof, stand proudly as an intimate hideaway, with distinguished and luxurious taste.

The Saint-Hubert Galleries

In 1847, King Leopold I laid the first stone of the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert. Left in charge of construction, architect Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar designed two galleries : one for the Queen, the other for the King, including the adjacent Passage des Princes. At each extremity of these 250 metre-long galleries, the architect crafted a massive semi-circle glazed roof to cover the upper floor apartments and ground floor luxury boutiques, all beautifully decorated with marble and copper.
The Galeries Saint-Hubert quickly became the city’s new attraction. Considered a mark of luxury and elegance, this urban promenade offered some of the best restaurants, shops and shows in the city. In the evening, well-groomed proletarians used to meet in this magic place, such as artists, intellectuals, and journalists. Regulars of the Galleries include Victor Hugo, Juliette Drouet, Paul Verlaine – who bought, in the Galerie de la Reine, the revolver which he wounded Arthur Rimbaud with – writer Willy Gauthier-Willars, Paul Fort, and Guillaume Apollinaire.
From 1847 to the post-war era, up to this day, the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert have kept its strong heritage over the years, which now attracts over 6 million visitors each year. Today, many artists, painters, composers, collectors and a happy few still live in the Galleries, which, since the opening of l’Hôtel des Galeries in 2014, have turned a new page in its history.

THE CURATOR OF THE PROJECT, NADINE FLAMMARION

Art collector and entrepreneur, Nadine Flammarion is at the head of three hotels to which she lends her sense of hospitality that combines elegance and simplicity: the hotel Arvor in Paris, ideal pied-à-terre in the bustling Saint-Georges district; the villas of the Saint-Christophe Hotel in La Baule, ideal getaway for lovers of this exceptional bay; and the Hotel des Galeries in Brussels, a jewel in the royal setting of Galeries Saint-Hubert.
Each hotel is committed to offer its guests a “family home” experience, where design and comfort unite seamlessly and where one evolves at his own pace in a refined environment.
Featuring in Paris her taste for art posters – those of Daniel Buren or Niki de Saint Phalle – and exhibiting, in Brussels, original lithographs of Sonia Delaunay or Buren’s “cabane éclatée”, Nadine Flammarion shares her private collection with her hotel guests. She fell under the charm of the Royal Galleries of Saint-Hubert during the period where her husband, Jean-Noël Flammarion, owned a bookstore there.

INTERIOR DESIGNERS, CAMILLE FLAMMARION AND FLEUR DELESALLE

Camille Flammarion, architect, graduated from the School of Architecture in Belleville, Paris, and spent 5 years at the architecture firm Jacques Ferrier before returning to school for master’s degree in ceramics in the Royal College of Art in London. “A logical detour,” she explains, “which taught me to work with a polymorphic and sensual material with the latest technologies.”
Today, Camille Flammarion works on interior design projects, such as the Caillebotte restaurant in Paris, and has her own line of modular furniture in ceramic with atelier Fauvel. For the Hotel des Galeries she was associated her friend and fellow interior designer Fleur Delesalle. Together they designed every inch of the hotel to the smallest detail, including some of the original furniture. “A tailor-made and coherent project with four hands that reveals the original architecture of the place. A hotel where you can feel at home, that is personal, where the furniture designed must be practical, scalable and functional. “
